Özet
Bu çalışmada 20. yüzyılda yaşanmış toplumsal olayları anlatan Ödön von Horváth’ın “Allahsız Gençlik” (Jugend ohne Gott), Jerzy Kosinski’nin “Boyalı Kuş” (The Painted Bird) ve Engin Aktel’in “Son Eylül Elveda Antigoni” romanları sosyolojik eleştiri yöntemiyle, sosyolog Zygmunt Bauman’ın modernite eleştirileri ve bahçe kültürü kavramları üzerinden incelenmiştir.
Söz konusu çalışma yapılırken eserlerin toplumsal olaylardan hareket ederek oluşturulmaları nedeniyle sosyolojik eleştiri yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Ayrıca 20. yüzyılın önde gelen sosyologlarından Zygmunt Bauman’ın moderniteye getirdiği eleştiriler ve “yabancı” kavramına yaklaşımları çalışmanın ana izleği olarak belirlenmiştir.
20. yüzyılda gerçekleşen toplumsal olayların ve moderniteyle birlikte gerçekleşen ulus-devletleşme süreçlerinin toplumlardaki tezahürlerinin incelendiği çalışmada, edebi metinlerden hareketle toplumların biz ve öteki olarak ayrışmalarının yanında yabancı mefhumuna duydukları güvensizlik irdelenmiştir.
Çalışmada öncelikli olarak modernite olgusuna değinilecektir. Çalışma kapsamında görüşlerinden yararlanılan Zygmunt Bauman’ın modernite anlayışı ve moderniteye getirdiği eleştirilere yer verilecektir ve daha sonra verilen bilgiler ve kullanılan yöntem ve yaklaşımlar ışığında metinler irdelenecektir.
Çalışmanın sonuç bölümünde bulgular ayrıntılı bir biçimde açıklanarak, çalışmanın bundan sonraki edebiyat incelemelerine getireceği muhtemel yenilikler tespit edilmiştir.

Abstract
In this study, the sociological facts in Ödön von Horváth’s “Allahsız Gençlik” (Jugend ohne Gott), Jerzy Kosinski’s “The Painted Bird” and Engin Aktel’s “Son Eylül Elveda Antigoni” are analyzed with sociological criticism and sociologist Zygmunt Bauman’s critique of modernity and “garden culture” which is a term of his sociology.
As the texts are constituted on the basis of sociological facts, sociological approach is used in the analysis of these texts. Also one of the most important sociologist of the 20th century Zygmunt Bauman’s critique of modernity and the term of “stranger” are defined as the main themes of this study.
In the study, sociological events of the 20th century and the reflections of the process of becoming a nation-state that co-occur with modernity on society are analyzed. Besides, the relationship between “we” and “the other” and the approaches of society to “the stranger”, which is the rival of those two groups, are examined in the study.
Firstly, the concept of ‘modernity’ will be explained. Then, Zygmunt Bauman’s understanding of modernity and his critique of modernity will be detailed and the texts will be analyzed according to Zygmunt Bauman’s critique of modernity by means of sociological criticism and Variation Theory.
In the conclusion, the findings of the comparison and the possible benefits of the study for upcoming projects are identified.
