Özet
Ege Havzası’nda, M.Ö. I. binyıldan itibaren, polislerin (kent-devletleri) ilk aşamaları diyebileceğimiz tarihsel süreçte, siyasal iktidar “basileus” denilen kralların elindeydi. Polisler, Eskiçağ dünyasında, batı jeo-kültürüne özgü politik ve toplumsal bir ünite olarak M.Ö. 8. yüzyıl ile birlikte, yeni bir siyasal otorite ve toplum anlayışının modelini oluşturmuştur. Bu model, Doğu’nun sisteminden farklıydı. Doğu dünyasının otokratik sisteminde; politik yaşamdan soyutlanmış bir halk ve tanrı kralın emrindeki ücretli ordu ve merkezi bir memur aparatı, sosyo-politik yapının ana omurgasını oluşturmaktaydı. Polisler ise seçkin niteliğinin ötesinde doğrudan demokrasinin uygulandığı, özgür (eleutheria), bağımsız (autonomia) ve kendine yeterli (autherkia) birimlerdi. Batı Anadolu ve Yunanistan (Hellas) peyzajında, parçalanmış bir topoğrafyada ortaya çıkan polislerin çekirdek yapısını, adına Oikos denilen “Aile İşletmeleri” oluşturmaktaydı. Göreli olarak polisler (kent-devletleri) bu çekirdek yapının uygun koşullarda bir araya gelmesi ve genişlemesinin ürünüydü. Batı Anadolu’da ya da daha dar coğrafi bir adlandırmayla İonia’da, temel yapılanma süreçlerini tamamlayan polisler, M.Ö. 6. yüzyılda en ileri ve olgun dönemlerini yaşamaya başladılar ve özgül bir “sosyo-politik mekansal kalıp” haline evrildiler. Bu kalıp içinde, Mezopotamya, Anadolu ve Mısır’ın bütün zihinsel ve kültürel birikimleri yeni bir felsefi ve bilimsel düzlemde formule edilerek, modern Batı aklının da tarihsel temelleri kurulmaya başlandığı gibi, esas olarak eski çağın medeni değerleri , polisler vasıtasıyla Batı Anadolu ve Ege’ye nakledilmiştir. Bu çalışma, sabit jeopolitik bir değişken olarak polislerin oluştuğu özel coğrafyayı da vurgulayarak, polislerin Batı Anadolu’daki doğuş ve gelişmelerine tarihi bir ışık tutmak niyetini taşımaktadır.

Abstract
