Özet
Bu çalışma etnografiyi, Ursula Le Guin’in Karanlığın Sol Eli romanı aracılığıyla tartışmaya açarken okuyucuyu da etnografinin metinselleştirme stratejileri üzerine düşünmeye davet ediyor. Araştırma, etnografiyi odağına alarak ilerlerken diğer yandan metinlerarası bir bakış sunmayı hedefliyor. Basitçe, etnografiyi araştırmacı ile araştırılanın karşılaşma tecrübesi ve bu tecrübenin bir tür metne dönüşmesi olarak gören bakıştan hareket eden bu çalışma, romanda gezegenler arası seyahat eden “erkek” bir elçinin androjenlerle karşılaşma tecrübesini etnografik metinselleştirmenin doğası içinden okuyor. Bu bağlamda romandaki elçinin tecrübesini ifade ediş biçimi ile etnografik anlatı örtüştürülerek “bir metin olarak etnografi” tartışmaya açılıyor. Bu çerçevede kurmaca bir karşılaşmayı metne dönüştürürken etnografinin metinselleştirme stratejilerini kullanan bu kurgu, etnografi alegorisi olarak yeniden tanımlanıyor. Buradan hareketle de etnografinin metinselleştirme biçimlerine kulak veriliyor. Romanın üzerine inşa edildiği “kadın ya da erkek gibi kesin bir cinsiyetin bulunmadığı, dolayısıyla da biyolojik cinsiyetin toplumsal ifadesinin olmadığı bir evrende nasıl bir sosyal yapı inşa edilebilirdi” sorusu ve bunun cevabı olarak roman, etnografinin akıl yürütmesi içinden anlamdırılıyor. Bu bağlamda da Karanlığın Sol Eli romanı; ethosu yakalamak, gündelik hayat ve yoğun betimlemeler ile etnografın tecrübeleri eksenlerinde ele alınıyor.

Abstract
This study brings ethnography up for discussion through Ursula Le Guin's novel The Left Hand of Darkness, meanwhile, it invites the reader to think about the textualization strategies of ethnography. The investigation intends to put forward an intertextual view while advancing with a focus on ethnography. This work, starting from a point of view which, simply, considers ethnography as the experience of the encounter between the researcher and the object, and the transformation of this experience into a kind of text, reads the experience, of an encounter with androgens, of a "male" ambassador carrying out an interplanetary travel in the novel, through the nature of ethnographic textualization. In this context, by overlapping the form of expression of the experience of the ambassador in the novel with the ethnographic narrative, "ethnography as a text" has been brought into question. Within this scope, this fiction, which uses the textualization strategies of ethnography while turning a fictional encounter into a text, is redefined as an allegory of ethnography. Thus listened are the textualization forms of ethnography. The question “what kind of a social structure could be constructed in a universe where there is no exact sex such as woman or man, hence there is no social expression of the biological sex” on which the novel is built, and the novel as the answer to this, is interpreted within the reasoning of ethnography. In this sense, The Left Hand of Darkness is approached through the axes; capturing ethos, everyday life and thick descriptions and the experiences of the ethnographer.
